چکیده
Understanding the temperature-dependent hardness of covalent materials is fundamental scientific interest and crucial technical importance. Here we propose a formula for zinc-blende structured based on dislocation theory. Our results indicate that at low temperatures, Vickers primarily modulated by Poisson’s ratio shear modulus, with latter playing dominant role. With an increase in temperature, governing mechanism plastic deformation switches from shuffle-set control to glide-set control, decreases precipitously elevated temperatures. Moreover, intrinsic parameter a3G revealed materials, which represents resistance material softening high This model agrees remarkably well experimental data materials. work not only sheds light physical origin hardness, but also provides practical guide design superhard

Stability of undissociated screw dislocations in zinc-blende covalent materials from first principle simulations
– The properties of perfect screw dislocations have been investigated for several zinc-blende materials such as diamond, Si, β-SiC, Ge and GaAs, by performing first principles calculations. For almost all elements, a core configuration belonging to shuffle set planes is favored, in agreement with low temperature experiments. Only for diamond, a glide configuration has the lowest defect energy, ...
متن کاملHalf-metallic Zinc-Blende Compounds
We report first-principles calculations of zinc-blende half-metals, identifying systems for epitaxial growth with semiconductors, and present calculations for CrAs/GaAs multilayers. We find that half-metallicity is conserved troughout the heterostructure, making this a good candidate for spintronics applications.

In this paper we extend to rock salt, CsCl, diamond and zinc blende structured solids with conduction d electrons the calculation of ground state properties such as bulk modulus and cohesive energy using the plasmon oscillations theory of solids formalism already employed for chalcopyrite semiconductors. The present method is not limited to binary or ternary compounds but can be use for all the...
متن کاملSize-dependent hardness of five-fold twin structured Ag nanowires.
In this study, the size dependent hardness of silver nanowires with a five-fold twin structure was examined using nanoindentation. As the diameter of the nanowires is reduced, the five-fold twin boundaries restrict the dislocation motion, and therefore a size dependent plasticity is expected for these uniquely structured nanowires. The polyol reduction method with modifications was used to synt...
متن کاملStructural and Room-Temperature Transport Properties of Zinc Blende and Wurtzite InAs Nanowires
Here, direct correlation between the microstructure of InAs nanowires (NWs) and their electronic transport behavior at room temperature is reported. Pure zinc blende (ZB) InAs NWs grown on SiO2/Si substrates are characterized by a rotational twin along their growth-direction axis while wurtzite (WZ) InAs NWs grown on InAs (111)B substrates have numerous stacking faults perpendicular to their gr...
